The Impact of Shame – Brene Brown

Brené Brown is research professor of social work at the University of Houston, Texas, Brené Brown studies the crucial role of vulnerability, shame and empathy in our lives. She has written several bestselling books and given two widely watched talks.
Her key focus is the creative, connecting power of vulnerability and its highly destructive flipside, shame.
She believes that, at the root of our wellbeing and ability to live full lives, is the capacity to be emotionally exposed; to make ourselves vulnerable, without shame.
She argues passionately that, in order to create a sense of belonging in our intimate relationships and wider communities, we must engage with our difficult feelings rather than denying and disguising them. Although the prospect of venturing into painful emotional territory can be daunting, the potential rewards, both to individuals and to society as a whole, are huge.
